Discounts
The Discounts feature allows you to create custom discounts to be applied to reservations or guest folios. These custom discounts are designed to offer an instant discount to a guest in order to sell the room, or compensate a dissatisfied guest. Each discount is unique and displays in a list when the magnifying glass next to the Discount field is selected from a reservation or guest folio. Your staff can then just select the appropriate discount to apply to the guests room rate each night.
Create a Custom Discount
Go to Setup > Configuration > Reservations > Discounts and click Insert to create a Discount.
Discount Name
Enter a name for the discount. Make it descriptive enough that your staff will know when to apply the discount, such as 'Dissatisfied Guest' or 'Managers Discount'.
When to Discount
Select the appropriate option for when the discount should apply: for the entire stay, after a minimum number of nights, every certain day, or the first night only. Note the first set of options apply the discount as a percentage while when an option is selected in the second set, the discount will be applied as a flat amount.
Discount Information
Percent/Amount - Enter the amount of the discount. The option selected will determine whether it is applied as a percentage or flat amount.
Discount starts on day - Enter the first night to apply the discount here if the discount does not start until a certain night of the stay.
Date Range - Enter a date range if the discount is only available over a time frame.
Example: You run a special for the summer where the guest gets one night free after staying two days. Enter a name for the discount and select Apply discount as percent every certain day, enter 100 in the Percent/Amount, 3 in Discount starts on day and a date range of June 1, 20YY to September 1, 20YY. When this discount is selected, roomMaster will discount every third night of the guests stay by 100%, making it free, but it will only be available for June, July and August.
These types of discounts do not display a description on the guest folio or Sign-In Sheet and there is no report functions. Folios with this type of discount are tracked historically by the Rate Code with no information on the discount.
HINT: If Historical Tracking information is desired for Discounted Rates, then you should create specific Rate Codes for each discount so that they are tracked and reported on.
See Discounts for more information on applying a discount to a rate code. Users can use Derived Rates to apply discounts to rate codes.
