EPI - Not Posting or Working
If your EPI is not posting or working, follow these simple steps:
-
Check if program is running - In roomMaster on any workstation, go to Night Audit > External Interfaces. The current status is displayed for EPI. This indicates the EPI is running. It does not mean all sessions are running or posting correctly.
-
Check if program is running on correct computer - Verify the computer EPI is running on is the one connected to the phone or POS system. You can tell if the program is running on a computer by looking on the Windows System Tray usually located at the bottom right of the screen. This application is labeled "EPI - roomMaster".
If the program is not running, you must start it. This is done by normally selecting Start > Programs > roomMaster for Windows > External Posting Interface.
If the program is running, click on the icon and proceed to step 2.
- Is the session active? - Once EPI is open, determine if the session for the interfaced device that is not working is active? You can easily find this out by selecting the Window menu option at the top of the EPI program. If all options are grayed out, no sessions are running and they need to be started. Otherwise, it will show which sessions are active.
To start a specific session, click on the Run button located on the top of the EPI screen. To start all sessions, click Initialize and run Sessions...
-
Are the cable(s) secure? - Make sure the cable from the device not posting or working to the computer running EPI is connected properly. To confirm, unplug the cable from the computer and from the device and plug it back in.
-
Check Buffered Bytes - When the session is active, make a test call. As soon as you hang up, the buffered bytes should increase. This is the number of characters being received from the phone system. If it doesn't increase, the phone system is simply not sending data and you should check your phone system, wiring and that the right COM port is being used. If it is receiving buffered bytes, but not posting phone calls, check that the right configuration is being used.
EPI Status Light
If the EPI Status Light is Red, no data is being received from the COM port to EPI. The error is with the phone system or the connection and NOT with roomMaster or EPI. Verify the cable between the phone system and the computer is secured and try to send data through the port to EPI again . If the Status Light is still Red, verify you have the correct COM port setting. If the COM port is correct and data is still not being received by EPI, contact your Phone Vendor or IT Professional. This is not a roomMaster issue.
If the EPI Status Light is Yellow, data is being received but not posting. This means the configuration is not setup properly. First, re-run the session with DEBUG turned on, File > Run Posting Interface > Click on Debug Mode > select the right profile > and press RUN. When data appears in the port and the light turns Yellow, press "POST NOW" button. A debug screen will appear. Press the PRINT button and fax it to your roomMaster software vendor for help.
If the EPI Status Light is Green, data is being received and posting. There is no error and everything is working properly.
