EPI - Advanced Trapping

Advanced Trapping is used to trap detail records by entering trapping elements. You can enter an unlimited number of trapping elements, however, do not enter more than you have to. As detail records are read, the system will check each line against what element types you have setup. All elements must be true for the line to be included for posting.

Access Advance Trapping on the Detail tab of the interface being configured. Use the Current Element spin box to select the position of the element to be checked. Then use the following options to enter the element being checked for.

Delete Used to delete the current element and not use it for trapping.

Number The element at the current position must be a 1 through 9.

Alpha The element at the current position must be either A-Z or a-z.

Non-Blank The element at the current position must be a character, number or special character.

Blank The element at the current position must be blank.

Other The element at the current position must be the character you have entered

This is a parent/child example showing how Advance Trapping can be used:

In this example, you can trap for the / which appears in columns 3 and 6. These data elements are always constant. If this is sufficient, do not enter "extra" elements which can slow down the posting process. Usually 2 or 3 elements should be enough.
