Adding Printers
To setup kitchen printing ...
-
The iQ-POS Print Manager program is only available with Extended iQ-POS. Contact your local InnQuest Software representative for more information.
-
Physically place your printers in the different locations (kitchen, salad station, bar, desert station, etc) needed, making sure they can be connected to any computer or print manager device on the network. Be sure the printer is able to be shared. To make it shared, use Windows Print Sharing. When installing the printers, limit the printer name to less than 10 characters to keep things simple.
-
Once all the receipt/kitchen printers are shared, simply install all the kitchen printers as network on the server or one workstation which will be running the iQ-POS Print Manager. This can be done by opening Windows Explorer on the computer and using Network Neighborhood, find all the printers, right click on each of them and select Install.
-
Go into the Print Manager program (psprint.exe) in the roomMaster directory on the computer that you intend to run Print Manager on. This computer can be the roomMaster server or a workstation. Either way, create a shortcut on the desktop of the computer the program is running on. For more information on networking roomMaster, see the roomMaster help text and or the roomMaster manual. Then, open the iQ-POS Print Manager program (psprint.exe) and select Printer Setup, then Insert to add each of your kitchen printers.
Printer Number: This is a unique number that identifies the printer. The first printer should be 1 and it will increment each time you add a printer.
Location: This is your description of the location of the printer. This location will appear in iQ-POS when you are choosing printers for each category/item. It will also appear in Printer Options.
Comments: Anything special you need to remember about this printer.
Do not Itemize Multiple Quantities will combine like items into a single line item on the kitchen ticket. For example, an order for three shrimp cocktails would appear as follows if the option is checked:
3 Shrimp Cocktail
Unchecked the same order would appear as:
1 Shrimp Cocktail
1 Shrimp Cocktail
1 Shrimp Cocktail
On the Device tab, select the printer to use for this location. The printer needs to be installed either locally or as a network printer to be selected. See Video Display for information on configuring the iQ-POS Video Station option.
On the Special tab, you can enter any ASCII control codes you would like to use on the printer to make it print in Red, Bold, large fonts, etc.
SPECIAL CONTROL CODES:
If you are using TMU-200D printer, the recommendation is to use 02703316 on the "Before Order" and 027033000 on the "After Order" fields. This will print in a larger font so it is easier to read in the kitchen.
For more information on available control codes and printer options, go to the InnQuest Software website (www.innquest.com) and select Support > Client Login. Once you log into the current clients section on the website, select File Library. Included on that page are the full manuals for the Epson TMU200 and TM-T88 printers. Links to the Epson Printer drivers are also in that location.
The Ignore Outlet Printing (Bar) tab allows you to suspend printing each order if it is entered at the workstation filling the order, such as a bartender making drinks for guests at the bar.
-
Once all your printers have been entered in Printer Setup, you are ready to run iQ-POS Print Manager. Click on Start Print Manager and the print monitor screen will appear. This screen always has to be up to send print jobs to the printers. You will start this program running and then minimize it. Do not close it. If this window is closed, print jobs will not be sent to the printers. It is also recommended to place a shortcut to the psprint.exe file in the Startup folder for all users on the computer it runs on. This will automatically restart the iQ-POS Print Manager if the computer is purposefully or accidentally rebooted.
-
In iQ-POS, select Maintenance > Items and Inventory and then the Categories and Menu Groups button to assign each category to a specific printer if you want kitchen printing to happen for that category. For example, send all Drinks to the Bar printer, all Salads to the Salad printer and all Entrees to the Kitchen printer and so on. If no printer is assigned, that category will not print. Please see Categories for more information on setting up multiple printing locations.
You can also setup a kitchen printer override on the item level if you wish, which overrides the setting on the category level. For example, if the Chicken Caeser Salad is the only salad that should be printed to the kitchen printer, you would not assign the Salad Category to a kitchen printer. You would assign just the item Chicken Caesar Salad by going to **Maintenance > Items and Inventory > **open the item > General Tab > Override Printer.
